I arrived at 6:15 am on a Saturday morning just after they opened, and there were half a dozen old bachelors, some jawing with the waitress (who is the daughter of the owner) and some quietly shoveling the food down, like me. I was very hungry, and I ordered the "Hungry Man" breakfast. My breakfast arrived very quickly and was hot. The coffee was replenished twice: it was weak and it's really not hard to make good coffee if you aren't too cheap to use a high enough ratio of quality ground coffee to hot water. After three coffees, I felt like driving to Tim's for a dark roast to be sure I had enough caffeine to be safe to drive. And I'm no fan of Tim's...They offered rye bread which I looked forward to, but it was inferior marble rye, that was chosen to look pretty but has no rye flavour. Please use a light rye from a quality baker (forget about caraway rye--that's way too much flavour for this timid chef to risk offering).The sausage were the bulk frozen type, bland & dull, instead of serving tasty fresh sausages from a local butcher with a bit of garlic & spice, maybe. The bacon was the most ordinary dried-out bacon I've ever had--most of the flavour & pleasure was thrown out with the grease. Maybe serve maple flavoured bacon or thick cut peameal instead, or better yet--slow baked ham. The eggs over easy were as ordered. The hash browns should have been the highlight: they fried them with onions and were from real potatoes. But they had no spice of any kind and had obviously been prepped well before 6am and they were already kinda dried out and the paltry serving of maybe a cup's worth was pretty chintzy for a breakfast charged at Toronto-level prices. Yes, you can get a similar breakfast for this price but with bigger portions and more flavour and better coffee and no roosters at Fran's Diner in downtown Toronto (even with the kind of rent they must pay). So for 15 bucks with tax, load me up with more of those inexpensive dried out home fries! Maybe if they didn't squander all their profits on their creepy collection of cocks, they could offer more quality and quantity at a fair price. I left hungry, so their "hungry man" breakfast was a fail.The service was average. Everything was average but a goofy collection of kitsch chickens who ironically approve of all their baby eggs being eaten by humans. Not really what I want to think about at breakfast.I think it's sad that some people don't aspire toward excellence, but finally accept that all they are capable of is average, and that the average person is happy with average food and coffee....
Luv the Roosteraunt. Food is great and staff very friendly and helpful. Decor calming but interesting. Hundreds of roosters. Go you won't be disappointed.
What a great little spot for breakfast! Super fast service with great diner style coffee. Filled with roosters, this spot is a bit Coras-esque. However, the prices are phenomenal and we really enjoyed the food. They have all of the typical breakfast items you want. Try the sausages with your eggs- theyre delicious!
We visit this restaurant quite often for breakfast we really enjoy the decor, the service and the food.Unfortunately we went late last Sunday and arrived late 1:10 pm knowing they close at 2 pm. There was approximately 15 people and 3 waitress, usually when we go there is only 2 early morning. We sat there and waited 10 minutes watching other people coming in and being served.(clearly we sat in the wrong section. After 15 minutes with not even an acknowledgement we got up and left(very disappointed) we enjoy the venue next week we will make sure to ask the more experience waitress what section she is serving. Really missed our breakfast Sunday.
